Trump’s Comments Disparage American Values

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In response to President Trump’s mean-spirited and offensive comments about immigrants from Haiti and African countries, Ali Noorani, Executive Director of the National Immigration Forum, released the following statement:

“What President Trump said today about immigrants from Haiti and African countries was beneath the dignity of the office he holds. The sentiment President Trump expressed is not one held by the vast majority of Americans who want to live in a compassionate country — one that welcomes men, women and children fleeing violence, environmental disasters and other extraordinarily unsafe conditions. Every member of Congress, and all people of conscience, should condemn the statements.

“In light of the president’s comments, as Congress is debating a solution for Dreamers, immigrant families and those with Temporary Protected Status, we should all ask ourselves: What America do we want for our children?”
