WASHINGTON, D.C. — Two Republican congressmen are advocating this morning for a debate that could pave the way to a solution for Dreamers.

Reps. Jeff Denham (R-California) and Will Hurd (R-Texas), as well as Rep. Pete Aguilar (D-California) are holding a press conference on the “Queen of the Hill” rule, which would push House leadership to allow floor debate and a vote on four immigration reform bills. Leticia Herrera, a Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipient, also is speaking.

Hurd and Aguilar’s USA Act is one of the bills that would come up for consideration. The bill combines a permanent legislative solution for Dreamers with sound border security measures.

The bipartisan Dream Act also would come up for a vote.

Republican voters want a solution for Dreamers and our border that bolsters the rule of law. Congressman Denham’s ‘Queen of the Hill’ proposal offers an excellent opportunity for Congress to debate and vote on such a solution,” said Ali Noorani, Executive Director of the National Immigration Forum. “An already hobbled DACA program, caught between the administration and the courts, is not the solution Americans want or need. Speaker Ryan should allow Congress to engage in debate, then vote.”
