WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Senate Appropriations Committee approved a supplemental border spending bill today that would provide $4.59 billion for emergency border resources.
The bill, now headed to the Senate floor, addresses the Trump administration’s request for border funding with much-needed humanitarian resources, rather than additional border enforcement funds. The bill would, however, allow the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to repurpose the funds.
“This bill’s humanitarian focus is an encouraging sign that the Senate knows we can’t enforce our way out of what’s happening at our southern border,” said Ali Noorani, Executive Director of the National Immigration Forum. “The House should follow suit and ensure that the funds go toward a truly humanitarian response. We need sustainable, compassionate border solutions.”
