WASHINGTON, D.C. — This morning President Trump tweeted that he’s considering vetoing the omnibus spending bill because it lacks full funding for a border wall and a solution for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients.

The following is a statement from Ali Noorani, Executive Director of the National Immigration Forum:

“If the president were serious about a solution, he would have taken any of a number of bipartisan deals presented to him up to this point.

“Perhaps Trump now realizes his staff have undermined him by pushing for additional enforcement measures at every turn. Remember, the president’s plan got only 39 votes in the Senate; the bipartisan approach received 54.

“Trump can still protect Dreamers and the border. The votes exist for that solution. The votes do not exist for massive cuts to legal immigration or increases to interior enforcement.

“Is President Trump serious about a solution? Let’s see.”
