WASHINGTON, D.C. — By a margin of 72%-14%, American voters support an immigration solution that includes three key components, according to a new survey.
The survey, conducted by the National Immigration Forum (“The Forum”) in partnership with The Bullfinch Group, asked about support for a “fair” or “restitution-based” immigration solution that includes:
- Consequences for having broken the law, followed by a chance to earn lawful status.
- Securing legal immigration and ending illegal immigration.
- Achieving a firm but compassionate solution for which Americans previously have expressed support.
“Across every political affiliation and ideological viewpoint, there is an overwhelming consensus for a fair, restitution-based immigration solution. I’m especially encouraged by the support among more than 70% of Republican and independent voters,” said Jennie Murray, President and CEO of the Forum. “Congress and the administration should use this support as the foundation for working together on firm, fair and compassionate immigration solutions.”
In a December survey, 80% of Republican registered voters said they’d support immigration solutions that balance border security; enforcement that sets priorities; asylum updates; and beneficial legal-immigration pathways.
Polling crosstabs are available for surveyed adults, a subset of registered voters, and specific subgroups including by party, political ideology and certain faiths.
The Forum, in conjunction with The Bullfinch Group, conducted a nationwide online survey fielded May 28-June 2, 2026, among 1,200 adults, of whom 1,000 respondents were registered voters. Sampling controls were used to ensure that a proportional and representative number of respondents were interviewed from demographic groups such as age, gender, political affiliation, race, and geographic region. The margin of error for registered voters is ±3.1% at the 95% confidence interval. The margin of error for adults is ± 2.83% at the 95% confidence interval.
