Evangelical Women to Meet with Congressional Offices, Urge Immigration Solutions

Washington, D.C. — More than 40 evangelical Christian women from around the United States are on Capitol Hill today to urge secure, compassionate immigration solutions.

The women are affiliated with Women of Welcome, a partnership between the Forum and World Relief and a growing community of thousands of evangelical women engaging on immigration from a faith-based conviction and perspective.

“We want our nation to ensure safe borders but also treat people humanely. Christian women are deeply grieved by the inhumane and unjust treatment of immigrants we’re witnessing across the country,” said Bri Stensrud, Director of Women of Welcome. “We want Congress and this administration to know we care about our immigrant neighbors and we must find solutions that respect the law and people who have contributed to our congregations and communities. We are praying for productive and eye-opening conversations.”

“This group of women is coming forward at a vital moment to emphasize both security and compassion,” said Jennie Murray, CEO and President of the National Immigration Forum. “Their conversations, both within their local communities and with their members of Congress, will help move us toward the reasonable solutions our country needs.”

“In a moment when the path forward for many immigrants and refugees seems unclear, these women’s courageous efforts is inspiring,” said Myal Greene, President and CEO of World Relief. “We hope it will inspire Democrats and Republicans to collaborate now on solutions that prioritize security, human dignity and family unity.”
